As a functional area lead, this individual will devise and execute on the preclinical pharmacology strategy utilizing cross-functional collaborations to ensure delivery of high-quality data packages in support of target discovery through to regulatory filings.

Full Job Description:

  • Define the preclinical in vitro and in vivo strategy; set up translational workflows for assessing potency in vitro and efficacy in vivo, assessing safety and establishing PK/PD relationships to help inform on human dosing and back-translate clinical outcome to relevant preclinical models and disease biomarkers.
  • Build and lead a team of scientists conducting in vitro experiments in our labs at the Bioincubator in Leuven (Belgium), including biochemical, cellular and target engagement assays.
  • Build a high performing lab including the purchase of equipment and set-up of workflows for data generation according to cutting edge laboratory standards.
  • Collaborate with the other department's heads to enable timely advancement of molecules from discovery to early development stage.
  • Manage resource allocation, including leveraging CRO partners and academic collaborators as needed.
  • Present data to internal and external stakeholders, including Scientific Advisory Board, and represent pharmacology during diligence activities.
  • Author regulatory documents and oversee delivery of required reports.
  • Foster the professional development of the pharmacology team members, ensuring both strategic and technical growth of individuals.

Requirements:

  • PhD with postdoctoral experience in Pharmacology, Biology, Biochemistry or related field and at least 10 years of industry experience in neuroscience. Experience with neuromuscular disorders is a plus.
  • Successful industry experience with understanding of the drug discovery process from Lead Optimization through late pre-clinical discovery.
  • Strong background in setting up and conducting in vitro enzymatic and cellular assays with extensive hands-on experience.
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of pharmacology; extensive experience in designing and executing nonclinical studies to characterize in vivo target engagement, proof of mechanism, and exposure-response; and a demonstrated ability to apply translational thinking to make data-driven decisions based on preclinical and clinical information.
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to effectively manage CROs and to facilitate interactions with academic labs and companies to ensure project progression.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience authoring relevant sections of regulatory documents is a plus.

What we offer:

  • An exciting job in a dynamic, international, early-stage biotech environment.
  • An opportunity for fast intellectual and professional growth with a potentially life-changing impact on neuropathy patients.
  • An opportunity to shape a new company and drive it to success.
